Student Data
Read Bytes is committed to protecting the privacy and security of student data. When our services are used by educational providers, such as schools, school districts, or teachers (collectively referred to as "Schools"), we may collect or have access to student data provided by the School or the student. This data is strictly used to enhance and provide our services and is treated as confidential.
Collection and Use of Student Data:
• Student data collected may include information such as first name, last name, grade level, and other details relevant to the student's learning experience.
• Read Bytes does not use student data for any purpose other than providing, maintaining, and improving our services.
• We will never share student data with third parties unless required to comply with legal obligations or with the School's authorization.
Responsibilities of Schools and Consent:
• Schools are responsible for obtaining any necessary parental or guardian consent required by applicable laws before students use the Read Bytes service.
• Read Bytes acts as a service provider for Schools and relies on the School to ensure compliance with all student data privacy laws, including but not limited to obtaining the proper consent to collect, use, and store student data.
Data Security and Breach Notification:
• We have implemented strict administrative, physical, and technical safeguards to protect the integrity and security of student data against unauthorized access or disclosure.
• In the event of a security breach involving student data, Read Bytes will promptly notify the affected School and take appropriate steps to address the issue.
Student Data Access and Deletion:
• Schools or parents can request the deletion of student data at any time by contacting us at hello@readbytes.com. We will comply with such requests within 30 days, except where prohibited by law.
• Upon termination of a service agreement or at the School's request, student data will be deleted in compliance with applicable regulations.
Use of De-Identified Data:
• Read Bytes may use de-identified or anonymized data derived from student data for internal purposes, including improving the service and developing new features. This de-identified data cannot be traced back to any individual student.
Account Password and Security
Upon completing the registration process for Read Bytes, you will receive a password and account designation. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and account and are fully responsible for all activities that occur under your account. You agree to:
(a) immediately notify Read Bytes of any unauthorized use of your password or account or any other security breach, and
(b) ensure that you log out of your account at the end of each session.
Read Bytes cannot and will not be liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to comply with this section. Read Bytes accounts are intended for individual use and may not be shared without express authorization.
To report security concerns involving our services, please contact our Customer Support team at hello@readbytes.com. Include details such as the nature of the incident, any affected systems or data, and the steps taken leading up to the incident. Our team will investigate promptly and take appropriate action.
No Resale of Service
You agree not to reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell, or exploit any portion of the Read Bytes service, its use, or access for any commercial purposes.
Modification or Termination of Service
Read Bytes reserves the right to modify, suspend, or temporarily discontinue the service (or any part thereof) at any time with or without notice. You agree that Read Bytes shall not be liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or temporary discontinuance of the service. In the event of permanent discontinuance, Read Bytes’ liability is limited to any fees paid, if applicable, prorated to the amount of time remaining on the subscription.
Read Bytes reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to suspend or terminate your account, or use of the service, for any reason, including but not limited to violations of these terms. Any termination may occur without prior notice, and you acknowledge that Read Bytes may immediately deactivate or delete your account and all related data, or bar further access to the service. Read Bytes shall not be liable to you or any third party for such termination.

The Read Bytes service may provide links to external websites or resources. Because Read Bytes has no control over these external sites and resources, you acknowledge and agree that Read Bytes is not responsible for their availability or the content, products, or other materials on or available from such sites or resources. Read Bytes is not liable for any loss or damage caused by your use or reliance on such content, goods, or services available through any external site or resource.
Service Fees and Changes
Read Bytes currently offers its services free of charge. However, we reserve the right to introduce fees for certain features, services, or content at any time.
Future Changes to Fees:
If Read Bytes decides to implement charges, we will notify users in advance, and any new fees will be clearly communicated on the website.
Users will have the option to continue using free features or choose to access paid services.
Continued use of the service after any fee changes indicates your acceptance of the new pricing and terms.
Please note that all changes regarding fees will be at our discretion and subject to these terms and conditions.
Independent Student Registrations
Read Bytes is primarily designed for use under the supervision of teachers, parents, or guardians to ensure that student privacy and compliance with applicable laws are upheld. In the event that a student registers for Read Bytes independently:
• Parental Consent: By using the Read Bytes service, students under the age of 13 are expected to have parental or guardian consent. If a student creates an account without teacher or guardian involvement, we reserve the right to deactivate the account until proper consent is obtained.
• Responsibilities of Schools, Teachers, and Guardians: We rely on educators and guardians to supervise and manage student registrations. Read Bytes does not actively verify parental consent for independently registered student accounts; therefore, any student under 13 who registers independently is understood to have obtained consent from a parent or guardian by agreeing to these terms.
• Limitations of Liability: Read Bytes is not liable for any unauthorized access, account creation, or data provided by independently registered students. Should a parent or guardian wish to request the deletion of such an account, they may contact us directly at hello@readbyt.com, and we will address the request in compliance with applicable privacy laws.
